Getting an Overgrown Yard Back Under Control
Whether it's a new property, a rental turnover or a yard that simply got away from you, here's how to reset it in one hit.

Every yard gets away from someone eventually. Maybe you've just bought a place that's been neglected, you're turning over a rental, or life simply got busy and the garden paid the price. Whatever the reason, an overgrown yard can feel overwhelming — but it's very fixable.
Start with a plan, not the whole thing at once
The mistake most people make is trying to do everything in one weekend, burning out halfway and leaving the yard looking half-finished. A neglected yard comes back best in a clear order rather than all at once.
The order that works
- Clear the rubbish and any obvious debris first so you can see what you're working with
- Cut the overgrown grass and weeds back to a manageable height
- Prune back overgrown shrubs, branches and anything encroaching on paths or fences
- Tidy the edges and garden beds to give everything a defined, finished look
- Haul away all the green waste so the reset feels complete
Why a one-hit reset is worth it
Once a yard is back to a neat baseline, keeping it that way is easy — a regular mow and the odd tidy-up is all it takes. The hard part is the initial reset, especially with really overgrown grass and heavy green waste that needs hauling away.
When to call in a hand
Overgrown and neglected yards are our bread and butter — end-of-lease tidies, pre-sale clean-ups, vacant blocks and yards that have simply gotten away. We'll knock the whole thing back into shape in one visit and take every bit of green waste with us, so you're left with a clean slate that's easy to keep on top of.
